The United States ranks last among developed nations for health, despite the most money spent on healthcare. This is why our country is being hit so hard right now and has so many chronic diseases. We think we are so healthy, but as a nation, we are not.
Despite the fact we have a robust healthcare system and spend the most money on health care, we are still the most unhealthy. There is so much obesity and chronic diseases and we don’t take responsibility for our own health and lifestyle choices well.
This is important. Why? Because much of our health is based on the decisions that we make day after day and year after year.
But we do need to see the positive effect a healthy lifestyle can have. The choices you are making now (or need to start making) are important.
Kids too, because they are our next generation and we want them healthy for their future too!
We are called to love God with all of our strength. And our physical body is a part of our strength. We are called to take good care of it. This won’t mean perfect health or no health struggles.
Don’t take a pass on caring for your health or think it doesn’t matter. It matters.
Filling your body with toxins and not encouraging their removal will add up over time. It always does.
I do think there is a balance between holistic health and Western Medicine. There should not be an all-or-nothing mindset. That is also unhealthy because Western Medicine can be used and used well, especially in times of emergency.
We aren’t going to build health by buying into the idea that the United States is healthy and following along with the standard American lifestyle and the standard American diet. We have to take more responsibility for our health and for the health of our family.
We need diet and lifestyle changes to live healthily in the twenty-first century.
My encouragement to you as we embark on the MAHA movement and see what they can get done in terms of revolutionizing our health care and chronic illness epidemic is to take charge of your own health and wellness. Don’t let institutions decide for you.
I sure hope they can make changes so our healthcare system is less corrupt and look at the true health of its citizens. But don’t wait around for that to happen. You can make wise decisions for your health now!
The last thing I’ll say is don’t get sucked deep into the vortex of researching ALL THE THINGS when it comes to health. Be aware, yes! But also, you can make yourself sick trying to find the most crunchy, natural, organic things out there. You can make yourself dysregulated by trying to get all toxins out of your life. It is impossible to get all toxins out and choose (and afford) the best of everything.
Do what you can handle in terms of your budget, brain capacity, and time capacity. The choices you make add up and when one thing becomes easy or a habit, add something else on! There is a healthy balance to holistic health and we all will have a different balance or different things our bodies can handle.
